PJM stretches from the Chicago suburbs to the Virginia coast. It coordinates wholesale electricity in all or parts of 13 states and the District of Columbia. Its peak hourly load reached 162.6 GW on 2 July 2026, a new record and a reminder of how many data centres and air conditioners now sit on this grid.
PJM’s market design differs from Texas. Instead of relying on the energy market alone, it buys capacity years ahead in a Base Residual Auction. The auction for the 2027/2028 delivery year secured 134,479 MW and, by PJM’s own account, fell short of its reliability requirement. That is why debate here centres on new supply and on forecast demand growth from data centres rather than on any single hour.
Official PJM prices are published by PJM; we do not show prices on this page.
What you see instead is hourly demand, net generation, net interchange and generation by fuel where reported, taken from the EIA Hourly Electric Grid Monitor. The figures are preliminary and revised later, arrive an hour or two late, and are refreshed every three hours. Not for trading or operational decisions.
