This page shows electricity generation in Taiwan from the feed of the state utility Taipower, published as open government data under the Taiwan Open Government Data License. The feed lists output by plant type about every ten minutes. It contains no wholesale price and no demand figure, so we show only the mix and the renewable share. Taiwan is an island grid with no interconnectors to other countries, the mix has to match local demand at every moment, unlike in Europe or Australia where neighbours absorb the difference.
The feed carries one timestamp per reading without saying whether it marks the start or end of the interval; we treat it as the start, and this is an inference. Two categories need care. Pumped hydro units at Mingtan and Daguan II are listed by Taipower under storage, so we reclassify them by unit name and show them as pumped hydro. The category for other renewables includes geothermal and appears as other.
What moves the mix: gas and coal supply most of the power, solar peaks at midday, and typhoon and summer heat shape demand and outages. Taiwan’s Nuclear Safety Commission states that all three nuclear plants have entered decommissioning (May 2025 update), so nuclear is not treated here as a baseload source.
Limitations: no price, no load, no forecast, and a mix that depends on Taipower’s own classification. All values are provisional.
